Things to remember when trying a sauna

For thousands of years people have been enjoying saunas. It is still viewed as one of the best ways to relax. A sauna is a small room or separate building where the air is heated to high temperatures. Usually, steam is added to create a humid environment that induces sweating. Sauna temperatures generally range from 150 -190 degrees Fahrenheit though some prefer it hotter! The first time you try a sauna there are a few things to remember. It is best to go a couple hours after eating and you should drink plenty of water before you go in. Depending upon the sauna, most people use towels to cover themselves. People in saunas never wear jewelry. Anything metal can heat up quickly including eye glasses. In the sauna, there are wooden benches set at different levels. Heat rises so if this is your first time, try a lower bench first. Most people find that 15-20 minutes in a sauna is enough. It is best to build up a tolerance before sitting longer. After you are done, it is customary to take a cold shower. This removes your sweat, regulates your body temperature and feels refreshing. People who use saunas not only have a wonderful way to relax but they also enjoy the health benefits as well. Saunas can help you increase blood circulation, sweat out toxins, and relieve pain from stiff joints. One of the best things about a sauna is that you leave the modern world behind. No texting, checking messages or making calls unless you want to destroy your iPhone. Without modern day distractions you can meditate on life and feel the stress leaving your body.
