What Kind Of Material Should I Choose For My Trellis?

Choosing a material for your trellis in your yard in Utah is actually an easy choice for most people, but for some, they want more help and need to know the ins and outs before they actually make a decision. They want it to be educated which is a very good thing because of the knowledge that it brings for future decisions down the road. But, it does take help and also resources to find out which is the best to use. So, to help those people who are having a hard time choosing, we first need to find out which materials trellis’ are made out of.

To start out with, the materials that are the most popular for trellis building are: Wood, bamboo, metal (iron, steel, copper etc.), and even in some cases, string. All of these would kind of depend on what you were looking for.

Here are the advantages to having an iron or metal trellis frame: The one thing that the iron is used for is beauty. When your plants climb the trellis, the spots where the plants haven’t climbed is still beautiful and actually compliments each other very well. It’s a beautiful material that can be designed to make it exactly the way you would want it.

The advantages for a wood frame trellis are: If you happen to have a metal trellis, in some areas of the globe the heat becomes unbearable and so would heat the metal, and therefore scorch the plants. In some areas though it is actually very beneficial to use the iron rather than the wood. The wood also looks very earthy and like it belongs to the scenery. A “natural” tendency to blend. This is also true with the bamboo.

Now the string trellis’ are probably the ones that you would probably not guess the reason. But here it is: When planting crops, some delicate vegetables and fruits actually benefit greatly from a little “string support” rather than a built in “trellis”. Crops such as vine vegetables such as peas and beans. Or tomato plants. All of these plants need a support system to achieve the full potential of their growth. If they were just sitting on the ground, there is a great guarantee your vegetables would be sparse and also not very healthy. The wood string trellis helps the plants reach the sun light and also to get the full nutrition from the moisture, but not so much they drown.

Trellis’ are amazing. So, if this was of some help, than you should have no problem choosing which trellis you would like to have built. Again, reiterating the the most popular is the wood trellis’ because of their earth friendliness and also the safest for the plants to live and flourish.
