Don’t Let the Bed Bugs Bite

We’ve all heard the phrase “don’t let the Bed Bugs bite” and thought completely nothing of it. In fact, if we’re all being honest with ourselves, we’d admit that many of us never thought they ever existed and were actually a real problem. The truth is, not only do bed bugs exist, but they are one of the worst problems that any of us could ever have. They are rapidly becoming a very serious problem worldwide, not to mention one that is very hard to be rid of. Fortunately, it is not a problem that is considered to be unsolvable.

Before anything else, it’s important to take the time to educate yourself on the topic. Bed bugs feed on blood, whether human or animal, much like the mosquito. Going along those same lines, their bites can result in very uncomfortable and itchy bite marks, or welts. When bitten by bed bugs, it is not a painful process, it just simply leaves those nasty bite marks that cause irritation. A single bed bug is likely to feast continually in the same area, but multiple bites across the whole body are signs of an infestation. Luckily, getting bitten doesn’t generally transmit any diseases. It’s important to treat the bites and avoid constant scratching, which can lead to a secondary infection.

So as to prepare yourself for the fight against these biting bugs, it’s important to know how to identify them. Bed bugs are a fast crawling type of bug and do not possess any wings of any kind. Up until they feed they are light brown and take on a flat oval like shape. After feeding they are much rounder and darker. The most common shelters for bed bugs are mattress seams, cracks in the wall and similar areas around the bed. When infestations become more serious, there may be dark spots on the mattress or an extremely foul odor. These are signs that you need to seek professional help right away.

Bed bugs are generally carried into a home from the outside. The most common source of these stow aways is an infested hotel that you may have stayed at. A great way to prevent any bed bugs from entering your home is to check the hotel thoroughly and even consult the management before attending. If you discover a potential infestation, call a professional pest control service immediately to rid yourself of this problem.
