How to Get Rid of Bed Bugs
If you wake up in the morning with a small row if welts that must have happened in the night, it is likely you have a bed bug problem. The best thing to do is to immediately take action to get rid of bed bugs. But how does one do this? First things first, strip your mattress. Get all the linens and bedding off and immediately throw them in the washer and wash them on the hottest cycle you have. Don’t forget to throw your pajamas in there, too. Then, inspect your mattress.
To get rid of bed bugs, you must first look for signs of them. While you are inspecting your mattress, you are going to be looking for several tell tale signs of bed bugs. First, if there are any obvious bugs. If you see mature bed bugs crawling your mattress, then it is pretty obvious you have them. But if you don’t see any bugs right away, then look for eggs and husks. Husks are what is left behind when the bugs shed. Check along any folds in your mattress and especially along the seams since this is their favorite place to live. Look for fecal matter, which looks like little brown specs. Also, look for any blood stains no matter how small. If you see any stains of blood, this is also a sign of bed bugs.
When you are sure that you have bed bugs, grab your vacuum. Hopefully you have a vacuum that has great suction power. Vacuum your mattress as thoroughly as possible and cover it with a mattress covering that can be sealed well. This should help to get rid of bed bugs. Otherwise, if you can afford it, throw your mattress out and buy a new one. Don’t go to used furniture outlets, since they will likely have bed bugs, too. If you ever want to buy used furniture, always check for bed bugs.
Unfortunately, we can’t use insecticides on the mattress itself to get rid of bed bugs. We should never spray a poison directly on the mattress since that is where we sleep. But it might be a good idea, once you have taken care of the mattress, to call an exterminator and have them fumigate your house to kill any bugs that weren’t eliminated by you.
