Protecting Your Cement with a Quality Concrete Sealer

A great way to protect your concrete investments around the exterior of your home and property is to coat them with a quality concrete sealer. Concrete that is subjected to the elements can deteriorate causing it to crack, crumble, and break apart. Moisture being absorbed into the concrete will cause the concrete to swell. For concrete in colder states, freezing and thawing can damage concrete very quickly. Applying a concrete sealer to the cement will lock out moisture and help protect the concrete increasing its longevity. When a concrete driveway, sidewalk, patio, or pool deck has a concrete sealer coating, it is much easier to clean up. Oil spills, rubber tire marks, and tannin stains from leaves and sticks will clean up easier than if the concrete were not protected. This gives great reason to invest in concrete sealing. It can protect the concrete and allow you to get more out of your concrete investment. Before applying any concrete sealer it is important to clean the surface thoroughly. The surface must be free of all stains and spills before it can be sealed. This will allow the sealer to penetrate the concrete so it can provide adequate protection. After the concrete is cleaned with a type of cement cleaner and a pressure washer, it needs to be allowed to dry out for several days so the concrete sealer does not trap any moisture in the cement. Normally, one or two coats of a good concrete sealer are sufficient depending on the brand.
